Operations

In our Operations Working Group, we focus on overcoming the complex challenges of establishing fully integrated industrial additive manufacturing production environments. The AM industry has reached a point where large-scale AM systems and associated software enable the production of parts with reliable quality for specific industrial applications. However, establishing a fully integrated industrial production environment—including AM, post-processing, and software workflows—to consistently deliver competitive customer value (in terms of cost, quality, lead time, and sustainability) while meeting occupational safety requirements remains a significantly more complex challenge. Key activities of the Operations Working Group include:

  • Connecting the ACAM community to identify previously unresolved but pressing challenges in AM operations
  • Pre-competitive consortial projects to jointly solve pressing operation challenges
  • Operations topics are often closely linked to manufacturing technology. Through close collaboration with other working groups, we can connect the worlds of manufacturing technology and operations, for example, in the area of geometry-adaptive scan strategies for PBF-LB/M
Economic Efficiency

  • Increase equipment efficiency through Smart Processing Routing in raw material preparation, planning and post-processing
  • Specializing shopfloor staff for the AM production shopfloor
Digital Thread

  • Realizing an Autonomous Order Management from inquiry to shipment across organizational boundaries
  • Growing the Digital Product File from cradle to gate for seamless quality control and repurposing
Eco-Effectiveness

  • Creation of Adaptive of Re-X-Chains within AM production shops
  • Advancing Closed Material Loops within the AM process chain
