ACAM, the Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing, is delighted to announce the appointment of Moritz Kolter as new Managing Director. This leadership transition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for ACAM as it continues to drive innovation at the intersection of industrial expertise and research collaboration.

Moritz Kolter brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Having served in senior roles at both ACAM and DAP (Chair for Digital Additive Production), Moritz has a profound understanding of the ACAM community and its mission. His strategic vision and dedication to fostering collaboration position him as the ideal leader to guide ACAM into its next phase of growth and innovation.

A Vision for the Future: Applications, Collaboration, and Internationalization

Moritz Kolter’s leadership will focus on expanding ACAM’s role as a hub for additive manufacturing, with a clear emphasis on driving industrial applications, fostering collaboration, and strengthening international ties.

“Applications, applications, applications – that is where I see the future for additive manufacturing,” says Moritz Kolter. “We have moved beyond the initial hype and are now entering a phase where additive solutions are adding real value, including high-volume production and serial manufacturing. My goal is to bring in companies, particularly end-users from industries like tooling and packaging, to realize this potential and grow the additive pie.”

A cornerstone of his strategy will be intensifying the collaboration with ACAM’s member community. This includes listening closely to industry pain points, leveraging ACAM’s research strengths to provide practical solutions, and evolving alongside the members’ needs.

Within the last year, ACAM has established five Working Groups covering areas such as Design & Product Application, Technology and Material for Polymers, Technology and Material for Metals and Operations. Additionally , the Market and Business Intelligence Working Group was introduced to explore applications in diverse industries and highlight additive manufacturing’s solution potential beyond its traditional scope. “It’s about understanding not just what additive can do internally but where it provides value from an external industry perspective,” Kolter explains.

Moritz Kolter also plans to build on ACAM’s international network, which includes partners from Europe, Asia, the US, and beyond. “Seeing this global, science-driven but industrially-oriented network is incredibly inspiring. Developing this international perspective further is one of my key aims,” he adds.

A Foundation for Growth and Innovation

This leadership change follows the departure of Managing Directors Stephan Ziegler and Gerret Lukas. Stephan Ziegler, who has been with RWTH Aachen Campus for nine years, including nearly two years as Managing Director of ACAM, will take on the role of Director of Business Development at SPEE3D. Gerret Lukas, after eight years on campus and four years in a leadership role at ACAM, will join Boston Consulting Group to pursue new opportunities in the industry. ACAM extends its heartfelt thanks to Stephan and Gerret for their outstanding contributions. Their leadership and expertise have been instrumental in shaping ACAM’s success.

As Moritz Kolter steps into his new role, ACAM looks forward to building on its strong foundation and exploring new opportunities for collaboration, research, and industrial progress. By focusing on advancing additive manufacturing applications, fostering global partnerships, and addressing industry challenges, ACAM remains committed to delivering added value to its members and driving the future of manufacturing.
